Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a common cause of leg pain and swelling, and is associated with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and varicose veins. CVI occurs when the valves of the veins do not work properly, impairing blood circulation in the leg veins and pooling blood in the legs. CVI can be caused by damaged valves in the veins or vein blockage.
Varicose veins are visible bulging veins that are usually purple or blue in colour and commonly affecting veins in the thigh or calf which are larger than 3mm in diameter. Varicose veins occur when vein valves fail to close properly due to weakness of the vein wall and because of blood clots in the vein that damage the valves.
What is red vine leaf (Vitis Vinifera)?
Red vine leaf contains pharmacologically important flavonoids and high levels of procyanidins, which are powerful antioxidants and free radical scavengers. The leaves are harvested after the grape harvested, at time when the leaves have highest content of key constituents.It has been historically used in Europe to treat a variety of conditions including skin and eye irritation, bleeding, diarrhea, varicose veins and haemorrhoids.
